Dental Implants

If you are missing one tooth or many, you already know the problems you face morning, noon, and night.

Dental implants can put those worries behind you and help you avoid more dental problems in the future.

Robert Hawke, DDS, in Tucson, AZ, can even help patients suffering from bone loss take advantage of implants' many benefits.

Is Bone Loss Preventing You From Getting Implants?

Many people in Tucson, AZ, have been told they lack the bone density needed to support a dental implant. Thanks to advances in modern dentistry, Tucson's Dr. Hawke offers new hope for these patients:

All-on-4 Dental Implants

If deterioration in your jawbone has prevented you from enjoying the security of implant-supported dentures, All-on-4® dental implants may be a solution. The All-on-4 method needs just four implants to support a denture instead of the six or eight (or more) needed with traditional methods. Because All-on-4 implants are angled, less bone is needed to hold them in place.

Mini implant

Mini Dental Implants

Mini dental implants are another option to consider when bone loss limits your choices. This smaller version of traditional implants is used when a weakened jaw cannot accommodate the larger implant. Like a traditional implant, the mini version is made out of titanium, but it is only about the diameter of a toothpick. Because minis are less invasive, the procedure and healing period are faster.

See How a Dental Implant Is Placed

For a single-tooth implant, a titanium post is inserted into the jaw. After the post has fused with the bone, a connector piece called the abutment is attached so that the dental crown can be secured to the implant.

How Long Do Dental Implants Take? A Sample Timeline

Dr. Hawke, who stays on top of the latest developments in implant dentistry, ensures every patient's treatment plan takes advantage of the latest, proven methods. This timeline offers a sample of what you can expect with a traditional implant procedure.
Dr. Hawke uses an advanced 3-D cone beam scanner to place implants with the utmost precision.

During your consultation, the dentist will perform a thorough oral evaluation and take detailed images of your oral structures using state-of-the-art cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Using this information, he will determine if implants are the best treatment and the exact location for the posts.

First Surgery

You will be made comfortable with a local anesthetic. We also offer nitrous oxide. When you are comfortable, an implant made out of biocompatible titanium will be inserted through an incision in your gums and into the bone. You may be provided with a temporary crown, bridge, or denture.

Healing Period

Over the next three to six months, your implant post will fuse with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. This is the step that makes implants incredibly reliable and sturdy.

Second Minor Surgery

Once osseointegration is complete, the abutment will be attached to the implant. The abutment is a connector piece that allows your restoration to be attached to the implant.

Second Healing

After the abutment has been placed, your gums will need a few weeks to heal.

Restoration Placement

Using precise digital impressions from the 3-D cone beam scanner, Dr. Hawke will design a restoration that fits, feels, and looks just like your natural teeth. After your gums have healed, you will return so we can attach your custom restorations and make any last-minute adjustments needed so your smile is beautiful, secure, and comfortable.

Walk out with a confident smile you are happy to share!
